Hiqa Reports

St. Anne’s Community Nursing Home is located on the outskirts of Clifden town in Co. Galway.

It is a two-storey building and has 24 places providing residential care to older people.

It was built by the Sisters of Mercy in 1875 as a domestic science training school and remained as such until 1970 when it was opened as a residential care facility for older persons.

There were 23 residents aged over 65 years in the centre at the time of inspection, many of whom had dementia.

All the residential accommodation is located on the ground floor.

This consists of an entrance hallway, large day room, dining room, smoking room, conservatory and other seating areas in hallways and alcoves.

There are well maintained grounds with comfortable garden furniture and an outdoor bowling green.

There is a small studio flat available for visitors who may want to stay overnight.

St. Anne.s Community Nursing Unit (CNU) is at a walking distance from the centre of Clifden, on the Westport Road. Visitors and others can use the car park at the back of the building, accessing the unit via Race Court Road.
